Running GNU/Linux on a Fujitsu-Siemens Lifebook S7110

I just setup a page explaining what works under Gentoo GNU/Linux on the Fujitsu-Siemens Lifebook S7110 laptop. Please let comments here for questions, remarks or enhancements.

I have installed Ubuntu 6.06 on my S7110, most stuff works, with the prepackaged 686 kernel both cpus are detected.

My only real problem is that after suspend my bluetooth isnt working.

I have tried on a newly started system do do
    /etc/init.d/bluez-utils stop
then removing the bluetooth module, and all related modules that also needed to be removed in order to remove bluetooth

    then doing an /etc/init.d/bluez-utils start

I dont get bluetooth to work, and I get the following in my syslog:

Aug 30 19:11:07 localhost hcid[6262]: Bluetooth HCI daemon
Aug 30 19:11:07 localhost hcid[6262]: Bluetooth SDP daemon
Aug 30 19:11:07 localhost hcid[6262]: Can’t get system message bus name: Connection “:1.5″ is not allowed to own the service “org.bluez” due to security policies in the configuration file
Aug 30 19:11:07 localhost hidd[6267]: Bluetooth HID daemon

  • Hi,

Im runninga a boot-cd with linux on a lifebook s7110.
But no harddrives is found, because the sata driver is missing for linux.
(CONFIG_SCSI_SATA_AHCI) Error saying something about PIIX
Where can I get that driver and how do I add it using a bootcd ? (B usb-memory maybe ?)

    Regards
    /Bjorn

  • Bjorn: you may want to try to boot from a Ubuntu CD where the SATA is enabled already

  • Ok, that might work just for running Linux,
but Im trying to recover a lost password in WinXP
    using Astrumi (http://sourceforge.net/projects/austrumi)
or Offline NT Password & Registry Editor (http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd)
    They both use Linux.
Can I combine any of them with ubuntu or somehow use drivers from the ubuntu CD ?

  • Tried Ubuntu 6.06.1 but it did not find the harddrive eather … :(
    What to do ?

  • Im using a beta version of Ubuntu Edgy and most stuff seem to work. I had to manually build the kernel module sky2 for the ethernet to work but I guess that will be fixed in the final release of Edgy (two weeks away).

The only real problem so far is, as Jacob pointed out above, that the bluetooth is broken after the system has been asleep. Tips anyone?

  • Just noticed that running /etc/init.d/bluetooth stop and start wakes the bluetooth up.

    Hi,

I just tried to install Gentoo on the same laptop as you, but I’m a newbee in Linux and didn’t succeed. I’ve used Gentoo 2006.1 LiveCD but there is a problem with Xserver. So I started instalation from prompt typing “installer”, went thru all settings and start instalation, but it faild due to some reading error (maybe on cd). Could you describe instalation using LiveCD in few steps? I tried to read manual, but my English is not good enought. What do I need before instalation, which Kernel to choose etc. Thank you very much for your help.

Génial, les deux ! Celle du sandwich m’a fait plus rire, parce que je m’y attendais moins…

  • I install Ubuntu on my Lenovo 3000 N200 (Intel Centrino Duo) laptop last year but I could not figure out heads or tail about why I cannot get the sound to work. I have searched the net but cannot find any information that I could understand (even on Ubuntu’s website) on account that this is the first time I’m using Linux. I still have Ubuntu on my laptop but I can’t listen or view videos. So, can you please help me.
